Os acalantos são canções de ninar presentes em todo o mundo. De melodia simples, com uma forma de canto bastante rudimentar, apresentam temas variados em seus textos, incluindo letra onomatopaica, propiciando a necessária monotonia para adormecer a criança. Para Lindolfo Gomes (1875-1953), respeitado folclorista brasieiro, o acalanto é uma das mais “espontâneas e encantadoras manifestações das carícias maternais”, também denominadas “cantigas de adormecer” ou “cantigas de berço”.

Nos três acalantos escritos para viola, Luís Eduardo Corbani busca nesse instrumento o timbre suave da voz humana — ora feminino e grave, ora masculino — tecendo, com sensibilidade e profundidade, delicadas linhas melódicas. Na versão instrumental original, a viola é acompanhada por orquestra de cordas, que contribui ainda mais para criar a atmosfera sonora característica do estilo. Nesta versão, a partitura para piano apresenta uma redução adaptada da orquestração.

Lullabies are songs for putting children to sleep, found in cultures all around the world. With simple melodies and a rather rudimentary style of singing, they feature a variety of themes in their lyrics, often including onomatopoeic syllables that create the gentle monotony needed to lull a child to sleep. According to Lindolfo Gomes (1875–1953), a respected Brazilian folklorist, the lullaby is one of the most “spontaneous and enchanting expressions of maternal affection,” also known as “songs for sleeping” or “cradle songs.”

In the three lullabies written for viola, Luís Eduardo Corbani seeks in this instrument the gentle timbre of the human voice — at times a deep feminine tone, at others a masculine one — weaving, with sensitivity and depth, delicate melodic lines. In the original instrumental version, the viola is accompanied by a string orchestra, further contributing to the creation of the sonic atmosphere characteristic of the style. In this version, the piano part presents an adapted reduction of the orchestration.
